Burbank California Jail Reopens

After months of renovation and repair, the Burbank Jail has finally reopened. The new-and-improved facility has the capacity to hold up to 70 inmates.

Burbank Jail Inmate Search

Construction began in April 2011 and during which time, the Burbank Police have had to transport arrestees to the Glendale Jail for booking. This has added at least another 45 minutes to the booking process. Now that the jail is open, it will not only save time, but now has the added convenience of having the capacity to hold 70 people. This isn’t the first time the two cities have had to share a jail. Glendale housed Burbank’s inmates for four weeks in 2002, when a construction company had to repair defective flooring in the Police Department’s jail.

The Burbank Police-Fire headquarters first opened in 1998 but began experiencing water problems in 2000. Water leaks were first discovered in the locker area used by firefighters, front stairs and the garage. The limestone flooring needed to be replaced and it was later learned that the concrete floor in the jail would need to be removed as well. The city sued the contractor that constructed the facility, alleging substandard work had been performed. The suit was settled in August 2008 for $3.16 million.
